Malawi, “The Warm Heart of Africa.” This bag represents the colours of my heart roots flag.

When I was 6, I told my mom and dad I would live in Africa. I was growing up in a small village in England and we did not have a television. How I knew about Africa is still a mystery to me. My mom and dad took me seriously and gave me a black doll, that has travelled with me through life. Keep in mind this was the mid 60’s.

I never forgot about my destiny and my soul circled back to that childhood prophesy when I was 48. I saw a street poster for a dialogue session at the Wosk

Center for Dialogue in Vancouver entitled, “The Trans-Local Potential of Diaspora Development.” In spite of not having a clue of what this dialogue was about, every cell of my being knew I was to attend.

There was one man who spoke, James Kamau from Kenya. His words were so pure, they ignited that little girl’s dream and my life’s commitment to Africa, particularly the women.
